What to do about water scarcity!

Social Media Post Wawi Aug22 scaled

The progressive water scarcity 💦 has many reasons: Climatic effects such as drought and high temperatures 🌤 lead to precipitation failures and evaporation of surface water. Anthropogenic impacts such as lack of passability and straightening of watercourses as well as (illegal) water withdrawals interfere with the natural water balance. The consequences are low water levels and a falling groundwater table.

The demand for water is high. We need water for drinking and industrial use in everyday life. However, the agricultural and industrial sectors in particular have an ever-increasing demand for water. This is related to more frequent dry periods and high consumption patterns. In the production of consumer goods such as clothing, luxury goods, food and building materials, so-called 'virtual water' is consumed.

An increasingly important task is to protect the earth's available freshwater and to exploit water resources. New concepts are needed to efficiently capture precipitation water. Heavy rainfall events in particular mainly lead to surface runoff, as the often dry soil cannot absorb the precipitation water that accumulates and the number of sealed surfaces is high. The precious freshwater flows in the flowing waters to the seas without being able to be used and additionally forms a hazard for flood events.

The M&P Group develops individual solutions and supports you in the development of water management concepts. Rainwater cisterns and trough storage tanks make precipitation water usable. Infiltration trenches and infiltration-capable traffic areas ensure groundwater recharge.

The M&P Group is also active in the areas of renaturation and watercourse development. Widening of the drainage cross-section, lengthening of the course and the creation of outwash areas reduce the runoff. Planning to restore the continuity of flowing waters to make water available for downstream riparians is also within our remit. A positive side effect is the creation of habitats for flora and fauna.

We are all called upon to value and protect water as a resource through sustainable environmental awareness and consumption behaviour.
