Frankenthal (Palatinate): Demolition of production halls on the site of the former bag manufacturer Sternjakob completed
The demolition of commercial halls on an approximately two-hectare site in Frankenthal (near Ludwigshafen), planned and professionally supervised by MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH in Heidelberg and Ludwigshafen, was successfully completed.
The demolition of buildings with a total volume of 36,000 m³ created space for the development of a new housing estate. Under the overall project management of Re2area GmbH, an engineering company for the revitalisation and reintegration of pre-used sites.
Here, MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH acts as a partner responsible for all services required to clear the construction site. This includes the examination of soil and groundwater as well as the buildings for pollutants, the planning of any necessary measures for the remediation of pollutants as well as for the deconstruction of the buildings, the excavation of the soil and the disposal of all materials. Due to the development history of this commercial site for around 70 years with numerous conversions and extensions, a complex building structure had to be dealt with. This included, among other things, the milling off of dangerously contaminated screeds using a special procedure that prevented pollutant emissions into the environment. Furthermore, since the existing former administrative buildings on the site are to be preserved, the demolition had to be designed in such a way that they remain undamaged and fully functional.
Furthermore, as part of MuP's waste management, around 6500 m³ of recycled concrete was made available for use in the new construction project, thus saving costs.
MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH's other tasks included assessing the load-bearing capacity of the building ground and coordinating explosive ordnance surveys, as there were suspected munitions remnants from the Second World War on part of the site.
With the work now completed, the area is now ready for new development.
