NEWS: In its current evaluation of occupational accidents for 2020, the German Social Accident Insurance of the Social Accident Insurance Institutions for Trade and Industry states that the accident figures in 2020 have reduced by an average of 11.4 % compared to 2019 across all economic sectors considered. A closer look reveals a very different distribution in the individual economic sectors. For example, reductions of more than 40 % were recorded for the catering and accommodation sector and of almost 27 % for the arts, entertainment and recreation sector, which were largely due to Corona-related restrictions, such as closures of theatres, museums, zoos and fitness studios as well as swimming pools in these economic sectors. The number of accidents at work also fell by more than 23 % for the provision of other economic services, which also includes travel agencies and tour operators. In the area of the provision of financial and insurance services, there was also a considerable decrease in the number of accidents by more than 36 %.

In the construction sector, on the other hand, the reduction was only 0.1 % and in the real estate and housing sector there was even an increase of 7 %.

The accident figures often show particularly severe consequences, especially in the case of fall accidents. With almost 35,000 cases, these contribute significantly to the number of accidents, especially in the construction industry. More than 75 % of the fall accidents were caused by employees who were moving without carrying out work or transport. Only about 7 % had fall accidents while working with hand tools and about 6.7 % while handling objects.

The statistics also show that hand injuries, with 33.7 %, are the most frequently affected part of the body in the workplace. Among the hand injuries, 20 % can be attributed to injuries of the thumb, 18 % to the index finger and 13 % to the middle finger.

For the members of the Mull und Partner-Group, the topic of "occupational safety" has always been one of the basic principles in the planning of construction measures, in order to enable safe and healthy work.
