Initial status report for a company in the plastics industry

In the heart of Lower Saxony, a company has been producing chemical substances for the global plastics industry for decades. According to §3 of the 4th BImSchV, this site is an installation that falls under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED Directive). As part of the approval procedure for the authorisation of the plant expansion, the preparation of an initial status report (AZB) was required.

An AZB documents the current condition of the soil and groundwater in the area of the plant site. Among other things, it contains an inventory list of the substances used, produced and released. These are checked with regard to their properties and quantity to determine whether they are to be classified as "relevant hazardous substances".

Furthermore, the AZB serves as a benchmark for the return of the property condition in the event of a plant decommissioning.

The extensions for the industrial site were approved and put into operation as planned. A detailed relevance test of the substances used was carried out by Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft and an investigation concept was designed. Thanks to the successful cooperation of all parties involved, a significant contribution was made to the approval of the site.
