On 1 January 2022, the Federal Republic of Germany assumed the presidency of the Group of Seven (G7) for one year. Under the motto "Progress for a Just World", the leading industrialised countries want to face common challenges with their international partners.
The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal forum of leading industrialised nations and democracies. In addition to Germany, it includes France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Canada and the United States of America. The European Union is also represented at all meetings. The chairmanship rotates annually among the members.
The federal government's programme has set itself ambitious goals for improving climate and environmental protection.
Essential core points of the programme are the protection of climate, environment and biodiversity. Among other things, the establishment of a "G7 Ocean Deal" is planned to strengthen joint initiatives of the nations to protect the oceans from pollution.
Furthermore, the foundation of a "climate club" is planned to promote international climate protection, because the climate crisis and the extinction of species are directly related to the constantly increasing environmental pollution.
Joint approaches to solving these problems are necessary. To this end, a joint meeting of the environment, climate and energy ministers is planned for May in Berlin.
In addition to environmental and climate policy content and goals, Germany plans during its presidency to further expand the G7's previous pioneering role in pandemic prevention and control and to advance an improved health structure. In order to achieve the WHO's global vaccination target of 70 percent of the world's population by mid-2022, Germany as G7 Chair will also advocate for global access to corona vaccines (COVAX) and local vaccine production in developing countries.
This broad spectrum of environmental tasks also sets the course for our daily work. When planning construction projects, for example, the MuP Group not only takes into account the technical constraints, but also pays great attention to the ecological and environmentally sustainable compatibility of the building materials and processes used. Engineering for a better tomorrow!
