M&P Osnabrück: Renewal of the railway overpass (EÜ) Oldersumer Maar

The Osnabrück site of Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was awarded the contract for the preliminary investigation and specialist construction supervision of waste and soil for the new construction project of the Oldersumer Maar crossing. The EÜ at railway km 340.324 is structurally in a poor condition. Due to the condition, a permanent maintenance of the line standard is not guaranteed.

For the new construction, among other things, a mobile dike will be used to temporarily drain the Long Maar. This is to be used on site on a total of two dates for six weeks each. The water-filled tubular dike consists of a high-strength and at the same time very flexible synthetic textile fabric. In order to guarantee the complete damming function, a pump permanently supplies the dike with water so that its own weight prevents it from drifting.

Prior to the creation of the water meadows and the BE areas, an environmental-chemical analysis of the site in question is to be carried out. The background to this is, among other things, the well-known geogenic problem of potentially sulphate-acidic soils in the marshlands of northern Germany. The investigations will be carried out in accordance with the LBEG's Geofacts 24 and 25.

Under the leadership of our colleague Moritz Lenz, the project started with the awarding of the contract on 01.05.2020 and will involve a wide range of interesting and varied challenges in field work and the evaluation of investigation results until the beginning of 2022.
