WHAT-WE-DO: On Poppelsdorfer Allee, in the heart of Bonn just a few hundred metres from the main railway station, Swiss Life Asset Managers Deutschland GmbH is developing the former Zurich Versicherung site into a residential quarter with approx. 280 new residential units.
M+P Ingenieurgesellschaft in Cologne was commissioned by the client to plan and tender the demolition of the building and the construction of the excavation pit and to provide expert advice on the construction measures.
A special feature of the 8 m deep excavation pit is the retention of components of the old structure and their use for securing the excavation pit. The floor slab and parts of the outer walls of the former underground car park were retained and, in conjunction with a tie-back anchorage, ensure the securing of the surrounding terrain and adjacent buildings. On the road side, a two-layer tie-back beam shoring was installed.
At the end of September 2021, the excavation pit of the first construction phase could be handed over to the subsequent trade after a construction period of 16 months for the remediation of pollutants, gutting, deconstruction, securing of the excavation pit and the installation of a foundation pad made of recycled demolition material.
