On 22 December 2022, the time had come: Lower Saxony's Minister of the Environment Christian Meyer handed over a funding notification under the ERDF programme for around 8.3 million euros to Mr Gerd Hoofe, Managing Director of the development company Lok-Viertel-OS GmbH.
ERDF stands for European Regional Development Fund and is intended to promote sustainable urban development, among other things.
M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft has many years of experience in applying for ERDF funding. Various projects for the revitalisation of brownfields in Lower Saxony could only be realised through a successful application.
The ERDF application for Lok-Viertel-OS GmbH was also processed and submitted by M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft. The application processing includes, among other things, detailed project descriptions with cost estimates, a post-use concept and various statements from authorities.
With the support of the funding now received, the derelict site of the former goods station in Osnabrück is being redeveloped. This includes the demolition of existing buildings, deep rubble removal, explosive ordnance detection and soil remediation. The revitalisation of the former freight station site is actively contributing to a reduction in land consumption.
It is planned to create a sustainably designed new district in Osnabrück on the 22-hectare site in the next few years. This will include around 2,000 residential units and residential-compatible businesses, and will be characterised by a particularly high quality of stay and movement, including green spaces covering more than 40,000 square metres. The aim is to create an urban quarter of the future with short distances, forward-looking mobility, strategically planned green spaces and a supply from renewable energy sources. A core element of this is to be the Green Loop: a multifunctional green area that invites people to linger as a local recreation area, as a playground and recreation space, and at the same time serves as ecological drainage as part of a planned sponge city concept.
M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft was thus able to successfully contribute to the realisation of a sustainably conceived urban development plan.
