Subsidy project: Development of a former landfill site in Seevetal as a site for a business park successfully completed
Mull & Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH has been successfully advising land developers for several years on the acquisition of state subsidies for the revitalisation of former industrially used land and properties. Land revitalisation now plays a key role in counteracting land consumption and promoting sustainable urban development.
For example, funds from the state of Lower Saxony and the EU were successfully obtained for the redevelopment of a former landfill site. The provision of the funding made it possible to develop the area from a brownfield site into a business park, which will bring new jobs to the region and continue the development of the commercial area at the Alte Postweg in Seevetal.
The existing areas had been used for the acceptance of soil after the graveling. Due to the organic residues incorporated, among other things, a subsequent use was possible taking into account the measures for methane gas collection stipulated in the remediation concept and was desired by the municipality of Seevetal in order to bring the area, which otherwise could only be used to a limited extent, into the subsequent use for commercial land development in a targeted manner.
The newly created commercial area has a size of around 48,000 m² and can be developed cost-effectively via existing infrastructure facilities. The subsequent use envisages a commercial use to enable new settlements and expansions of existing businesses at the site.
Contaminated material was excavated and properly disposed of in compliance with elaborate work and neighbourhood protection measures. By means of mobile sieve layers, foreign components such as building rubble, wood, metal and other admixtures were separated and, for the most part, re-installed in layers for the construction of a load-bearing subsoil. At the base of the excavation pit, a geogrid with a gas-permeable fleece layer was installed. On top of this, despite the lack of or low methane indications, a gas drainage layer of at least 30 cm thick was applied using rolling material.
The subsidised subsequent use of the site made it possible to dispense with the otherwise already discussed necessary land use of arable land and grassland for commercial development in Seevetal.
