Plan area Rondorf North-West - relocation of the Galgenberg Lake

Galgenbergsee

WHAT-WE-DO: AMELIS Projektentwicklungs GmbH & Co. KG is developing the new urban quarter Rondorf Nord-West in the south of Cologne with approx. 1,300 residential units. The project is associated with the relocation of the Galgenbergsee lake and various measures to realise urban development goals. Through the construction of a decongestion road, inner-city traffic calming measures, the expansion of public transport through the light rail connection of Rondorf and Meschenich and the expansion of the social infrastructure, the city of Cologne wants to set standards in terms of neighbourhood development in Rondorf.

In the course of realising the new development area, it is planned to relocate the Galgenbergsee lake in the northern planning area, whose ecological condition is currently rated as moderate to poor. The lake will be extended to the west and filled in to the north and south, creating space for the new development area and the traffic connection. In the course of the redesign, the lake will be ecologically upgraded.

The Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, Cologne, supports the client in the planning and execution of the sea relocation in different fields of activity. Thereby, the Germany-wide know-how of the M&P Group is used and cross-company cooperation with the Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH in Cologne and Hanover, the M&P Umwelttechnik GmbH in Heidelberg as well as with the IBGW in Leipzig takes place.

In the planning phase, M&P assessed the contaminated site situation, carried out deep drillings to assess the stability of the new lake and investigations of the lake sediments, and prepared a groundwater model and a soil function assessment including soil protection concept and soil compensation concept.

In the course of the execution, M&P will accompany the work in terms of soil science and, due to the location of the lake in water protection zone III, (microbiological) monitoring will be carried out.
