Groundwater at risk - climate change already measurable today
Climate change cannot only be measured in degrees Celsius. Climate change cannot only be measured in degrees Celsius. The effects can already be seen today in the development of groundwater levels. The water level surveys of the federal states, for example, show a uniformly falling picture. Lower Saxony, for example, indicates an area-wide picture of an extremely low groundwater level class for September 2019. Along with the low groundwater levels, the water available to plants is at such a low level that the agricultural yields in 2017 - 2020 have remained significantly below the average yields.
Moreover, large parts of the groundwater are in a condition that does not allow direct use for drinking water purposes. In addition to the impact of nitrate on drinking water, large parts of urban groundwater are sustainably polluted by anthropogenic substance inputs.
Another problem is the increasingly frequent heavy rainfall events in cities, which cause immense damage.
By means of engineering planning, the Mull und Partner Group responds to the central issues surrounding the topic of water. In addition to the remediation of groundwater bodies in-situ or on-site, the active control of precipitation through e.g. Sponge Cities in cities and of water runoff in the area via renaturalised surface waters is gaining in importance.
