In the urban conversion of a former industrial site in the city centre of the Württemberg town of Weingarten (Ravensburg district), the demolition of the above-ground parts of the previous development was successfully mastered.

A few weeks ago, the excavators rolled off the former southern plant section of the Schuler AG mechanical engineering group, where they had been on the move for around six months for the demolition of the production halls. With the demolition of industrial halls with a total volume of 220,000 m³ on an area of 3.66 hectares, an important stage has been mastered in the long-term development of the former industrial area into a completely redesigned urban quarter. i+R Wohnbau Lindau GmbH, which is responsible for the "Martinshöfe" project as the client and site developer, was very satisfied with the services provided by MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH Heidelberg, which was entrusted with the exploration and planning of the deconstruction work. For example, despite the size and complexity of the building fabric on the industrial site, which has been gradually built on since the end of the 19th century, all work was completed on schedule and without unexpected additional costs. This was not least due to the thorough investigation of the building substance carried out by MuP and its detailed planning of the gutting and deconstruction work, with which a cost-efficient comprehensive remediation and disposal of building pollutants and construction materials could be achieved.

In the following construction phases, MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH will also provide expert support for the underground demolition work and the excavation and disposal of soil material. This work is based on comprehensive investigations of the subsoil and a development of cost-optimising variant considerations in the handling of soil and construction waste material with the help of 3D models of the subsoil. The particular challenges included a complex load structure of the soil material (a total of around 150,000 m³) as well as the presence of machine foundations reaching down to a depth of five metres, which had to be demolished with low immission due to the inner-city environment. The overall project, which has been managed by MuP since 2016 in the area of pollutant investigation, deconstruction and disposal, will be developed by i+R Wohnbau Lindau GmbH and realised in the coming years.
