Already 30 years ago, the Emschergenossenschaft began with the first planning and construction measures for the renaturation of the Emscher system. In the course of this renaturation, a redesign or rerouting of the Emscher estuary into the Rhine at Dinslaken is also planned. The old technical estuary structure made of reinforced concrete is to be replaced by a naturally designed inlet about 500 m further north. For this purpose, the relocation and the hydraulic engineering design of the estuary delta were prepared in various earthworks and special civil engineering measures.

TABERG Ingenieure GmbH has been providing expert support for the "Neue Emschermündung" project since 2014. The services for soil management, geotechnical implementation support and investigation, as well as health and safety coordination, have been fully provided by TABERG Ingenieure GmbH to date.

On 09.11.2022, the "New Emscher Estuary" was ceremoniously opened by NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst and the rebuilt estuary delta was flooded.

After eight years of construction, the time has come: the Emschergenossenschaft floods the new Emscher estuary floodplain near Dinslaken in the presence of NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst. About 500 metres of the newly designed and renaturalised Emscher estuary have been moved to the north. An approximately 20-hectare delta has been created, which will not only offer improved flood protection in the future. For flora and fauna, it also forms an important entrance portal from the Rhine into the new Emscher valley.
