Deconstruction planning and supervision of a former school in Hammer Straße. Hamburg

The public sector is planning a new building with a school foundation on the property at Hammer Straße 124 in Hamburg. The property has served as a school location since the 1960s, the northern buildings still today. The southern buildings have been vacant for some time and have since been made available as accommodation for refugees. The redevelopment required the demolition of the existing buildings and the unsealing of the surfaces. Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was commissioned with the preparation of the tender documents for the deconstruction of the buildings as well as the supervision of the construction during the deconstruction works. The deconstruction is to be carried out in two construction phases, as the northern buildings can only be deconstructed after the school has moved.

The tender took place in summer/autumn 2022. The demolition work began in December 2022 with the clearing out and gutting of a total of four buildings. This was followed by the remediation of pollutants, the mechanical deconstruction and the disposal of the construction waste. During the demolition of the components in contact with the ground (foundations, basement walls), the work had to be accompanied by an explosive ordnance company, as there was a general bomb unexploded ordnance suspect area on the property in the area of the buildings to be demolished. The work was completed in June 2023. The demolition work was accompanied by an expert opinion from M&P.

The area with the deconstructed buildings was handed over to the client in June 2023 in a cleared condition. The deconstruction of the buildings of the 2nd construction phase will follow after the school has moved.
