Vibration measurements and forecasts

During construction work, especially compaction, pile-driving and vibrating work in civil engineering as well as demolition or dismantling work, the vibrations generated by construction equipment or falling building parts can be transmitted to neighbouring buildings and possibly cause considerable damage. By measuring vibrations during construction, the vibration-related influences can be continuously monitored and, as a result, the effects and hazards to people and building fabric can be minimised or eliminated.

TABERG Ingenieure GmbH has been successfully carrying out vibration measurements for construction measures in commercial, industrial and private or public buildings for several years. These serve to control and document harmful vibration effects on the local building fabric, sensitive machinery and plant technology as well as historic or listed buildings.

The effects of vibrations on building structures are standardised in DIN 4150-3. By establishing contact at short notice between our specialist engineer and the construction site personnel or by means of a defined alarm chain (via SMS or e-mail), any exceedance of the DIN reference values is communicated immediately without any loss of time. Based on a vibration analysis, the local construction site personnel are advised immediately so that work can be resumed as quickly as possible.

The vibration measurements can be carried out by an engineer on site in the form of a short-term measurement campaign lasting only a few hours, or alternatively as long-term measurements accompanying an entire measure. In this way, our engineers cover both short construction measures or individual construction sections as well as longer-lasting projects.

Depending on the client's wishes, a brief documentation of the measurement (e.g. as a weekly or monthly interim report) including an assessment of the limit value transgressions that occurred or a summarising measurement report on the entire construction measure can be prepared as part of the vibration measurement construction supervision.

Especially in inner-city areas, vibration-induced disturbances for people in buildings are not uncommon. The reference values of DIN 4150-2 "Effects on people in buildings" can be exceeded at construction sites with long construction periods, even if the reference values of DIN 4150-3 (for buildings) are clearly observed. Critical disturbances are analysed and documented with continuous monitoring by the measuring devices set up on or in the residential buildings.

If the general conditions in the vicinity of the construction project are unclear or, as is often the case, several buildings are located in the vicinity of a construction site, a vibration propagation forecast can help to identify the most critical buildings or to determine the distances that should not be undercut.

Whether a short-term one-time measurement, a permanent metrological monitoring or a project-preparing vibration prognosis: TABERG Ingenieure GmbH has expanded its team of highly qualified engineers with Dr. Asslan and is the right contact for all questions in this specialist area.

During construction work, especially compaction and demolition work, the vibrations that occur can be transmitted to neighbouring buildings and facilities and may cause considerable damage. Vibration measurement during construction can minimise or eliminate vibration-related hazards.

Particularly vibration-intensive construction activities can be accompanied by metrological vibration monitoring. The vibration measurements can be carried out by an engineer on site in the form of a short-term measurement campaign lasting only a few hours or alternatively accompany an entire measure as long-term measurements.

If the general conditions in the vicinity of the construction project are unclear or, as is often the case, there are several buildings in the vicinity of a construction site, a vibration propagation forecast can help to identify the most critical buildings or installations or to determine the distances that should not be undercut.
