Investigation of suspected contaminated sites

The city and district of Osnabrück are characterised by industry and commerce. This results in possible old sites, old deposits and contaminated sites. According to the Federal Soil Protection Act (BBodSchG), these are divided into:

  • Disused waste disposal facilities and other land on which waste has been treated, stored or deposited (old landfills), and
  • Land of decommissioned installations and other land on which environmentally hazardous substances have been handled, causing harmful soil changes or other hazards to individuals or the general public.

The term "contaminated site" is only used when the hazard has been identified through appropriate investigations and assessments.

Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was commissioned with the orienting investigation of a suspected contaminated site in the district of Osnabrück.

On the basis of soil investigations, a wide variety of backfill material (building rubble, slag, coal, green waste, etc.) was found and the deposit was largely demarcated. Furthermore, a possible risk to the groundwater could not be excluded. Therefore, further investigations were recommended within the framework of a detailed investigation.
