Expert monitoring of the extension of the Weddel loop

Weddel loop

WHAT-WE-DO: The so-called Weddel Loop extends between Weddel and Fallersleben. The electrified line between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg is an important part of both local and long-distance passenger traffic as well as freight traffic. In order to increase local transport capacities on the line and to make passenger traffic more flexible, the section is being upgraded to double track.

The plans dating back to the 1990s included the double-track extension of the line. From 1996 to 1998, however, the Weddeler Schleife was initially only implemented as a single track. In order to also meet future train traffic requirements, it is planned to complete the Weddel loop with two tracks.

Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH is supporting the construction consortium Weddeler Schleife in the course of soil management on the construction site. For the double-track extension, approx. 100,000 m³ of soil must be moved in the vicinity of the line extension. It is planned to leave at least 60,000 m³ of excavated material in the construction project and to use it in noise protection measures and road embankments.

On the one hand, this requires extensive waste analysis and evaluation of the material as well as corresponding coordination services with the competent authorities from the three districts concerned.

The employees from the Hanover site are looking forward to working on improving the quality and capacity of long-distance and freight transport in this project until 2023.
