After the end of coal mining, many new commercial, residential and leisure areas are being built on former industrial wastelands in the Ruhr region as part of the structural change.
In Bergkamen, in the eastern Ruhr area, TABERG Ingenieure GmbH is providing expert advice on the land reclamation of the former Haus Aden 1 / 2 coal mine.
Around the new 6.6 ha Adensee lake, a modern urban quarter is being created on an area of 54 ha with the "Wasserstadt Aden". Wasserstadt Aden is part of the Bergkamen/Lunen Garden of the Future as part of the International Garden Exhibition 2027.
Construction work has been underway since the end of 2017 and will continue for several years. The colleagues from TABERG drew up the remediation plan, were responsible for the earthwork planning and the tendering of the construction work. In addition, they have taken over the expert construction supervision, the site management and the superstructure management for the land preparation and soil remediation. In total, more than 1 million m³ of soil will be moved.
Currently, the drop plate compaction is being carried out. What looks like the holes in a Swiss cheese are the hollows that are created when a drop weight weighing several tonnes compacts the ground from a height of almost 20m.
