Use of groundwater models in the treatment of contaminated sites

The use of groundwater models plays a decisive role in the management of contaminated sites at Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft. The models are used during the investigation of contaminated sites, remediation planning and monitoring in order to understand complex relationships between the spread of pollutants and to solve planning tasks. Simple analytical approaches often simplify the local hydrogeological conditions to such an extent that they are only useful for simple cases or in orientational investigations.

Numerical models, on the other hand, make it possible to take into account more complex structures as well as degradation and retention processes such as sorption. Depending on their complexity, these models can be built using machine learning, a branch of artificial intelligence (AI). The combination of variant calculations and AI often enables more precise estimates of forecast accuracy. This synergy of expertise and AI offers our customers decisive added value, true to our motto: "Engineering for a better Tomorrow."
