On a 3.7-hectare former industrial site in the city centre in the district of Ravensburg, the construction site for the development of a new district was cleared on schedule.
Since 2016, MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH, Heidelberg, has been overseeing the urban development conversion of the former mechanical engineering site into a high-quality, mixed residential quarter with more than 500 flats and around 10,000 square metres of commercial and catering space.
The tasks of the MuP employees ranged from an initial real estate potential assessment to environmental and geotechnical investigations as well as the planning and supervision of the demolition of buildings with a total volume of 220,000 cubic metres to the recently completed remediation and disposal of soil material.
One particular challenge was the demolition of numerous machine foundations up to five metres deep, which had to be dismantled using powerful demolition machines while taking noise protection in the inner-city environment into account. The demolition of the foundations and floor slabs resulted in more than 20,000 cubic metres of crushed recycled concrete, which could be recycled in a cost-saving manner.
In addition, more than 100,000 cubic metres of soil backfill, some of which was heavily contaminated, was completely removed from the industrially pre-used site and disposed of professionally or recycled appropriately.
The regular use of the company's own surveying drone proved to be particularly helpful here, allowing the current status of the work to be documented and the masses of demolition and soil material to be monitored.
As a result, MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH was able to hand over to the property developer a site free of contaminated sites and ready for construction, on which the building construction work will begin in the next stage.
